Modules

An Innovative Way to Stay Certified

ABEM has introduced an online, module-based continuing certification program developed by practicing clinicians with the uniqueness of your specialty in mind.

Core elements of modules include:

About Modules

  • ABEM-certified physicians are required to pass four MyEMCert modules every five years to remain certified.
  • Check your ABEM portal for your specific continuing certification requirements.

EMS Continuing Certification Requirements

MedTox Continuing Certification Requirements

You can! Select the low-cost CME option during the registration process, before you start your module. CME cannot be granted retroactively.

CME FAQs

Specific MyEMCert modules can count toward your EM and subspecialty continuing certification requirements.

Modules have sections for key advances or knowledge advancements to facilitate learning, amplify medical knowledge, and stay current in the specialty. They can be pulled from any current synopsis provided by ABEM and will not necessarily be related to the module topic.

MyEMCert Key Advances

  • You will be able to select which module to take based on the modules available to you in your ABEM portal. There is no set order for completing the modules. It is up to you to choose from what is available.
  • The fee for each module is $375, except for physicians who have already transitioned to an annual fee. The annual fee covers the fee for modules.
  • Find a quiet, private space to take modules because they must be taken by yourself.

Thanks to ABEM-certified physicians who volunteer for a process called psychometrics, scores can be determined and validated. Learn more about this process and next steps if your module attempt is unsuccessful.

  • You will have 4 hours of total time to complete the module.
  • If you are inactive for 15 minutes, you will receive a warning that the system will automatically pause your module unless you take action (For example, clicking your mouse).
  • If you exit the module before completing it, only your confirmed answers will be saved.
  • Modules are open book and can be taken at your convenience. However, they must be taken alone and without collaboration, as opposed to LLSA tests.
  • After completing each question, you will receive instantaneous feedback on your answer, the correct answer, and the rationale.
  • Questions are forward progression only. Once you confirm an answer, you will be unable to return to the question or make changes.
  • Once you answer a question, confirm it immediately. Unconfirmed questions will be marked incorrect if you time out of or leave the program.
