The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) will publish residency-specific, aggregate pass rate data for first-time test takers of the Qualifying and Oral Certification Examinations. This information will be available starting in the fall of 2025.
Pass rates will only be published for programs that have graduated at least three classes of residents who have had an opportunity to take the Qualifying Exam. The Board of Directors requested input from multiple sources and continues to revise the report’s format based on the feedback received. ABEM will finalize the format this summer followed by publishing the data in the fall.
“Publishing the pass rate data offers benefits, such as informing future applicants and building trust in the community through transparency of the data,” shared Diane L. Gorgas, MD, ABEM President.
ABEM will publish only the aggregate number of examinees to protect the anonymity of those taking the exams.
