ABEM Statement on Physician Misinformation

The mission of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is to “ensure the highest standards in the specialty of Emergency Medicine.” ABEM-certified physicians are demonstrating those high standards by risking their lives to care for victims of the COVID-19 pandemic. ABEM believes that the opinions publicized by emergency physicians about COVID-19 should reflect our specialty’s commitment to scientific and clinical excellence.

ABEM supports the statement issued by the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine that “COVID-19 misinformation is widespread and dangerous.” ABEM advises policymakers to rely only on sound scientific evidence when making decisions that could impact public safety.
