ABEM has received accreditation from the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Being accredited by NCCA means that ABEM’s certification processes have been evaluated against defined standards by an established third party. Receiving accreditation demonstrates that ABEM has met the NCCA’s quality standards in professional certification. Accreditation is for a period of five years. ABEM is the first medical specialty board to become accredited by the NCCA.
ABEM met the rigorous NCCA standards through a process of application and detailed review to demonstrate compliance with the NCCA’s Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs. As part of the accreditation process, ABEM provided evidence that it is acting in the public interest by establishing and enforcing education, examination, experience, and ethics requirements for certification.
