ABEM Director Yvette Calderon, M.D., M.S. Elected to the National Academy of Medicine

The American Board of Emergency Medicine is proud to share that Director Yvette Calderon, M.D., M.S., has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine. Dr. Calderon was recognized “for outstanding contributions incorporating public health and primary care interventions in the emergency department for underserved communities, including HIV/hepatitis C testing, counseling, and treatment programs in New York City, now replicated internationally, partnering emergency departments, health departments, and community organizations; and for substantial efforts to augment diversity and inclusion in our medical workforce.”

New members are elected by current members through a process that recognizes individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of the medical sciences, health care, and public health.

Dr. Calderon is Chair of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, and Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City. She has served on the ABEM Board of Directors since 2019 and has been instrumental in leading ABEM’s DEI initiatives.
